ABOUT US
What is 4L Books? That question could be answered in so many ways. A Christian publisher. A creative company. A conversational blog. Each of those answers would be correct, yet incomplete.
4L Books is a publishing ministry, sharing God’s word with the world, especially through the written word, online, in print, and in person.
What Does “4L” Mean?
“4L” is an abbreviation of sorts. It stands for “Live, Love, Learn and Laugh.” What’s so special about these four words? Broadly speaking, these are the four main elements of the human experience.
The unsaved person is dead in sin, so life begins when we believe on Jesus Christ for salvation. (Ephesians 2:1-5) Our eyes opened to God’s love, we can begin to love Him back, partly by loving others. As we walk a new path with Him, we want to learn more, to do it better. Lastly, in His love and care we find true and enduring peace and joy, and even a good humor, through all trials.
Every work that we publish involves one or more of these components.
LOVE
We love because He first loved us.” (1John 4:19) There is no love like God’s love, and as an example of perfect love, it instructs us how to love. In Christ we learn tha love is more than a philosophical concept or fuzzy feeling; it’s active, selfless and enduring. What is life without love?
LEARN
Not only has God given us intellect to discover knowledge, but knowing Him also helps us avoid “what is falsely called knowledge”. (1Timothy 6:20) Each day, we should be learning about the world around us and, meanwhile, thoughtfully pursuing Christlikeness. (Ephesians 5:16)
LAUGH
“Happy are the people whose God is the Lord!” (Psalm 144:15) God saves us, helps us and provides for us an eternal home with Him. I don’t know about you, but that makes me very happy in my activities. (Ecclesiastes 3:22) Laughter is my favorite way of showing it.
Our mission is the same chief purpose of every Christian, which is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.
Our Mission
All Christians are called to glorify God. It’s a common calling but can look very different in different people’s lives. The specifics of a person’s service to Him depend on the gifts and opportunities He gives that person.
God doesn’t need anything from us. He certainly doesn’t need our imperfect service. However, as a loving Father, He invites us to partner with Him in reaching out to the unsaved and building up His people.
We at 4L Books consider this calling a priviledge. Our part in the body of Christ is to produce useful books and media. We aim to exhalt the Savior while evangelizing, encouraging and instructing our audience (that He gives us) in His word.
“Iron sharpens iron.” (Proverbs 27:17) We are imperfect people but serve a perfect Master. We think not highly of ourselves but of Him. So we hope to bring you to Him or help you serve Him better, even as we are learning the same.
Every work that we produce upholds these five values.
Our Values
These five core values compose our publishing standard. They shape our work. Everything is held up against these values, and nothing is published without meeting this standard.
Thoughtfulness
We approach life thoughtfully, considering things and asking questions. (Philippians 4:8) What does God’s word say about this topic? What insight or assistance would’ve helped us as new Christians? What lesson can we derive from this experience? All of our projects and efforts begin with intentional reflection.
Love
“Let all that you do be done in love.” (1Corinthians 16:14) We are Christ’s ambassadors. (2Corinthians 5:20). So we better represent Him with love, because “God is love.” (1John 4:8) If we don’t serve out of love for Him, or show to others the love He first showed us, we become clanging gongs. (1Corinthians 13:1-13)
Truth
Avoiding uncomfortable truths is unloving. We don’t show any love for God by clamming up or love for people by becoming soothsayers instead of truth-tellers. However, there are many wrong ways to speak truth. We want to speak the truth in love. (Ephesians 4:15)
Humility
“Do not think of yourselves more highly than you ought.” (Romans 12:3) We can do nothing good apart from God, and our best work is imperfect. Who are we to be proud? We aim to serve the Risen Savior in humility toward Him and people. “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble'” (James 4:6)
Self-Examination
There is a teaching component in much of what we publish. And a teacher of the Bible, in any capacity, should be careful to avoid hypocrisy. We all sin (Romans 3:23), which is why we need the Savior. Yet, we don’t want to disqualify ourselves after preaching righteousness to others. (1Corinthians 9:27)
